Job Summary The Barn Manager reports directly to the Executive Director, and is responsible for working with the Head Trainer/Program Director and Assistant Trainers, as well as the Assistant Barn Manager and barn staff, to assure the optimal health, condition, and care of all horses in the barn. The Barn Manager is Meadowbrook’s primary point of contact with the veterinarians, farrier, feed, hay, bedding, manure pick-up, and other venders, and is responsible for scheduling and/or overseeing orders, deliveries, and medical appointments. The Barn Manager also interacts directly with horse owners, lessees, boarders, and riders on issues relating to horse care and health. The Barn Manager shares responsibility for night check with the Assistant Barn Manager, and is responsible for overnight coverage. The expectation is that the Barn Manager and Assistant Barn Manager will each provide night check for three-four days per week. The Barn Manager lives in housing provided on site. The Barn Manager typically receives two regular days off per week, but is expected to carry a working cell phone when off-premises and be on call 24 hours per day in case of emergencies. Additional duties are set forth below. This is a full-time, permanent position, eligible for benefits. Job Duties. The Barn Manager is responsible for the following duties, as well as others that may be assigned as needed. Responsible for all aspects of horse care and welfare for Meadowbrook’s 50 horses, including feed, nutrition, vaccination, worming, dental and other health maintenance programs; administering supplements, medications and injections; identifying and responding to illnesses and injuries; turnout and conditioning; and maintaining accurate and up-to-date health records and documentation for all horses. Coordinates with veterinarian and farrier as necessary to provide appropriate care following injury or illness and to monitor health and soundness. Coordinates all daily and seasonal horse care schedules with barn staff and trainers, including feed, hay, cleaning, turnout, blanketing, clipping, blanket cleaning, equipment maintenance, medical and other supply orders, recharging security cameras, and other tasks. Maintains billing records of services provided to clients (eg, lunging, pro rides, shipping, injury or illness care, etc) and interacts with the accountant on billing issues Performs light maintenance tasks, and communicates with the executive director about facility upkeep needs. Trailers horses to veterinary visits as needed. Supervises Assistant Barn Manager and barn staff, in coordination with Facilities Manager. Responsible for night-check up to four times per week. Proficiency in conversational Spanish a plus. Compensation Package: Salary and Benefits This is a full-time, salaried position. Housing on site and all utilities are provided.
